If traveling the iconic Route 66 is on your bucket list, then this area of Amarillo can’t be missed. Commonly known as 6th Street, this area sits one mile west of Downtown and contains iconic store fronts, an eclectic collection of retail and antique stores, and a variety of restaurants.  

One of the oldest restaurants in the city, Golden Light Café & Cantina, on Route 66 and is listed on the national historic marker.  

Several art galleries are in the area as well as Blue Sage Pottery, a well-known store for pottery pieces that wow.  

Local bars and nightlife in the area are known for live music, much of which is free to enjoy. Genres range from folk to Americana to jazz and rock ‘n roll.
